TVQG to Participate in King City Winter Bazaar

WINTER BAZAAR DATES – November 10, & 11, 2023

TVQG is a yearly participant at a local Winter Bazaar sponsored by the King City Lions Club.  This event is held at the King City Civic Association (KCCA) Clubhouse located at 15245 SW 116th Ave, Portland, OR 97224. The bazaar features handcrafted items created by local artisans including quilting-inspired items created by TVQG’s guild members.

Funds made from the Winter Bazaar help our guild to provide a fantastic array of speakers throughout the year, they offset our operating costs, are used to buy quilting supplies for our charity quilting groups, and allow us to donate to other non-profit organizations.

Brown Bag Auction Planned for November 2023 Meeting

TVQG has planned a fun event for members and guests attending the November 21st General Meeting by hosting a “Brown Bag Auction”.

Here’s how it works: First, go through your sewing and quilting supplies to locate items in new or good condition that you no longer need, including projects you haven’t had the time or incentive to complete, or scream “what was I thinking.”  Suggested auction items could include sewing and quilting notions, fabrics, patterns, tools, books, or even that dusty old sewing machine you are no longer using.  Then, load your auction items up and bring them with you to the November 2023  meeting.

We’ll have tables set up for you to place your items on.  A brown paper bag will accompany each auction item.  We’ll have a Ticket Sales Table set up for anyone at this evening’s meeting to participate by bidding on any of the items they would like to win.  Tickets will be sold before and during the auction for $0.50 each.  Even if you do not bring in items, you be able to join the fun by purchasing auction tickets. Then, as you browse around the room, you can use your tickets to bid on items.  Hint: The more tickets you place in the brown bag by the item you’d like to win, the better your chances are of winning it.

Of course, before the auction starts we’ll go over all the rules in greater detail. But we’re hoping this gives all our members a quick overview of our November 21, 2023 Brown Bag Auction Event.

Helene Knott to Speak at the September 2023 Meeting

TVQG Members and Guest are honored to have the well-known quilt artist, Helene Knott speak at the September 19,  2023 meeting.

Here is some background information on her – Helene was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula in central California, a beautiful area that served as an inspiration to set her onto a creative path for life. From a very early age she showed a keen interest in art, starting with drawing and painting and exploring different mediums for her self-expression. Blessed with proficient drawing and illustration skills, Helene has explored a number of artistic mediums. In the early 70’s, she turned her attention to fiber and fabrics, with a focus on quilting and embroidery.

Quilting was experiencing a renaissance in popularity and making a gradual transition from utilitarian craft to an art form. Helene found herself intrigued by the medium; its challenges and possibilities. For the last 40 years or so, fiber and quilting has been her primary medium. Helene has a love for exhibiting her work, and has expanded her interest to include teaching her skills and knowledge to others, to inspire a new generation of quilters and fiber artists.
