Sit and Sew Events

Our Sewing Days are open to anyone in the community who would like to participate. Quilters attending Sewing Days are afforded the opportunity to interface with fellow quilters and have their quilting-related questions answered in a group setting.  An informational quilting tip, handout or instructional presentation may be offered during our Sit and Sew Events.

Saturday Monthly Open Sit and Sew Day

The fourth or last Saturday of every month TVQG hosts a monthly Open Sit & Sew Day between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.  Our Open Sew Days are held in the Multipurpose Room of the King City Clubhouse.  All TVQG Members, friends, and members of the local community are welcome to join us.  There is no cost to attend.  Lunch is on your own.  We will have ironing stations and cutting tables set up for you to use.

We welcome you to join us based on your schedule. Feel free to drop by anytime during our Open Saturday Sit & Sew Days. You are not obligated to spend the whole day.  Don’t feel like bringing your sewing machine? That’s ok – bring a hand sewing project, or the knitting, crocheting, or needlework project you are working on.  The focus of our Sit & Sew days is for you to simply join us to chat and enjoy each other’s company.  You may even learn a new sewing trick or technique while spending some time with fellow quilters.

So, please mark your calendar to join us on the Saturday of every month.  Think of it as a mini-retreat or just to spend an unstructured day interfacing your fellow quilters.

Quilting Challenges

Each year we offer one or more quilting challenges.  These challenges are designed to help quilters develop or expand their creative skills.  Usually, participants in these challenges are offered the opportunity to receive a prize for their efforts.

2024 Challenges

For 2024 our challenges will involve both a Mystery Quilt a a new Pizza Box Challenge. Stay tuned for details on both of these events.

2024 Sampler Quilt Block Exchange
AKA – “The Pizza Box Challenge”
Churn dash block

This  anonymous challenge started in March 2024 with our Challenge Team handing out a “pizza box” for the participants to document their preferences and store any preferred fabric.

This challenge consists of your making three different blocks of your choice based on the original participant’s instructions and fabrics (if included).  Then each month for the next five to six months quilters will make and add three additional unique quilt blocks to another participant’s pizza box.

At the conclusion of the challenge the original participant will receive their pizza box back filled with an assortment of unique completed blocks all ready to assemble in to a quilt.

If you are interested in participating in this challenge, please visit the “Pizza Box Challenge Desk” at the next meeting.

UFO Challenge

Each calendar year we hold a UFO Challenge.  This challenge is meant to encourage our quilters to complete their unfinished projects (UFO’s).

Our current UFO Challenge for began on January 1, 2024, and will run through the December 31, 2024. Prizes for UFO participants will be awarded at the January 21, 2025 meeting.  Guild members are not required to turn in a form documenting their current UFO projects.  Participation in this challenge is on the honor system and there is no fee to participate.  For each completed UFO that is presented during the Show and Tell portion of a General Meeting in 2024, you are eligible to receive a ticket. Prizes for participating in this challenge will be awarded in a random ticket drawing at the January 2025 General Meeting.

And, by the way, if you aren’t familiar with the term UFO for quilters it stands for any UnFinished quilt Object (project).
